Tuesday, August 10th was our 42nd wedding anniversary. Gary came home from work that day with these:
They are absolutely the most perfect roses I have ever seen, along with the sweetest card (the kind that makes you cry because it's so beautiful).
He had already scheduled to take Thursday and Friday off, but we didn't really have any plans...just a get-away somewhere. So, Thursday morning we started driving south down into Arkansas. We heard an ad on the radio for the Showboat Branson Belle with Todd Oliver and Irving. We had heard from friends that it is a really good show, so we turned around and went back to Branson. We got tickets for the 4pm dinner and show. We were not disappointed..it was a great show. The music was great with dixieland jazz, swing music, Broadway show tunes, hit tunes from movies....and Todd Oliver and his dogs. Good dinner...except no milk for Gary. That's always a downer for him....but one minor fault is not bad for the evening.
Then we checked into The Castle hotel...I went for a swim...then we went for an evening snack including milk for Gary. The hotel provides a great breakfast with eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles, etc. along with entertainment. Gary Welch and Danny Yeary sang for us. Danny Yeary sang with the Blackwood Brothers for 27 years and now has his own show in Branson. We went shopping at the RedRoof Mall and at the Tanger Mall until time for the next show. We saw the #1 Hits Of The 60's at the Caravelle Theater at 2 pm. We loved it. Very talented singers and I especially loved the part where they came into the audience and picked out someone to go up on stage and dance. We sat in row 10, but one of the girl singers came all the way back to us and pulled Gary out of his seat to go up on stage and dance with her. (I think she had her eye on him the whole time.) She said, "You can't hide from me back here." I was laughing so hard, because I knew this was the last thing in the world Gary wanted to do. So, what did I, his loving wife do? Get jealous and storm up on stage and pull him off. NO, of course not. I grabbed my camera and started taking pictures. Here he is doing the Watusi, the Batman, the Twist and Freestyle.
Don't ya just love it? She thanked me for letting her borrow my husband for a little while. I told her I was so glad she did, even though he was way out of his comfort zone.
Well, we decided we just couldn't top that adventure...plus we had spent all our designated money.....so we drove home...back to our own comfy bed and my pillow that I forgot to take with me.
I am so blessed to have spent the past 42 years with my best friend and love of my life. Each year just gets more precious and I am so thankful for every day that the Lord gives us together.
All my love to my wonderful man,
Donna
